Lack of immunisation leading to measles epidemic

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is blaming a lack of immunisation in young children for the current spate of measles outbreaks.

Currently, 175 measles cases have been reported this year, including 19 who have needed hospital treatment.

Most cases have been in the Auckland region, although 24 cases were reported in Hawkes Bay. In the past week, 12 cases have been reported in the Waikato region, mainly around Te Awamutu.
